- Shalyatantra is the one of the most Significant branch among Ashtanga Ayurveda since it provide immediate and complete cure to a vast number of diseases with minimally invasive surgical procedures especially in conditions that demand beyond merely medicinal repair.
- Shalyatantra is an Ancient Surgical Science which embraces all procedures aiming at removal of Shalya(factors /objects) that are responsible for producing pain or misery to the body or mind.
- Acharya Sushruta was a great surgeon of ancient India and The Pioneer of Sushruta Samhitha being one of the world’s earliest works on medicine and surgery ,hence glorified as the ‘Father of Indian medicine’ and ‘Father of Plastic Surgery’.
- Sushruta in his influential treatise ‘Sushruta Samhitha’ discussed in detail about an exhaustive range of surgical procedures for various surgical conditions such as tumours,etc and the use of various surgical instruments are also mentioned.
- Shalyatantra deals with extraction of foreign bodies(shalya), different surgical procedures such as Ksharakarma, agnikarma, jalaukavacharana etc. for the management of various diseases such as arshas, bhagandara,parikartika, charmakeela, etc ,diagnosis and management of various types of vrana and types of bandaging etc.
- Shalyatantra has a role in the management of diseases in all branches of Ayurveda and hence accepted important treatment medology by scholars of all branches of Ayurveda.
Here in the department of Shalyatantra in Kundapura Rural Ayurveda Medical college, Koteshwara we deal with :
- Treatment of piles, fistula and fissure using Ayurvedic methodology such as ksharasutra ,kshara karma etc
- Management of various musculo-skeletal disorders through Agnikarma.
- Provide best possible patient care in areas of Surgical and parasurgical management at well equipped operation theatres and procedure room
- Management of disorders due to vitiated blood, skin diseases,varicose veins etc. by Rakta mokshana(blood letting)
- Management of ulcers, skin diseases and gangrene by jalukavacharana
- Effective management of various cases of non-healing, chronic infected ulcers , Such as venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers etc.
Department Activities
Kshara Sutra Prepartion:
The department was involved in preparing Ksharasutra for treating fistulas and hemorrhoids in the patients of the hospital. It took around a month to do it and an elaborate process. The process was done as mentioned in Sushrutha Samhitha. Kshara Sutras done are easily accessible for patient convenience.
Vrana ropana taila preparation
The Department has undertaken in preparation of Vrana Ropana Taila. The preparation helps in easy wound healing. The reference for the preparation of
the Vrana Ropana Taila has been taken from Sushrutha Samhitha, Sutrasthana, 37 th chapter. Patients can easily get access to the authentically prepared oil for healing of wound, ulcers etc.
